Abstract
Bernard Charnwut Chan grew up in Hong Kong and was educated in the United States. Bernard worked for an investment bank in New York before returning to Hong Kong to run his family's privately held investment company. Today, he is the President of both Asia Financial Holdings and Asia Insurance with a reputation as one of the financially strongest insurers in Hong Kong. He is also an advisor to Bangkok Bank (China) Co Ltd. Bernard is an accomplished entrepreneur with a proven track record of business successes as a founding chairman of Bank Consortium Trust, chairman of the Hong Kong-Thailand Business Council, and numerous elected positions in public office such as Deputy to National People's Congress. Bernard is a member of the governing board of the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund in Hong Kong People's Republic of China. He also plays an active role in social policy areas concerning welfare, quality of life and education. Bernard serves as the chairperson of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service comprising of an umbrella group of welfare agencies. He played a part in the creation of Caring Company that provides a framework for creating partnerships between the business and welfare sectors.
