It is interesting to note what Michael Howard, writing in Millennium, Vol. II, No. 2, had to say on this point: " this revulsion against the use of force is a cultural symptom of comparatively recent growth and comparatively limited extent.... Marxists have until recently quite frankly expressed the view that force is a legitimate instrument of revolution, and it is not absolutely clear that they have abandoned that belief. There are still in the Third World, especially the Muslim sector of it, warrior societies of a very traditional kind."
