One of the most extensive projects in recent times was developed in the USA during the late 1960s and early 1970s. This emanated from musicians and teachers associated with the Manhattanville College in New York City. Over this period new ideas were formulated and new practices were disseminated across the whole of the USA, and many participants from practically all the States contributed. This paper is intended to explain its contents, philosophy and objectives, and to provide some comment on these.
