Giant-cell pneumonia in pigs with dermatosis vegetans is described. The formation of multinucleate giant cells within the lung in the animals under study was associated with an interstitial pneumonia or a bronchopneumonia and appeared to be an integral part of the pneumonic process. Multinucleate giant cells appeared to arise from the vesicular alveolar septal cells and thus are of mesenchymal origin.
