An enzootic fatal disease occurred in a group of tropical fish, Molliensia sphenops. Multiple focal areas of chronic granulomatous inflammation were found in the liver, central nervous system, kidney and pancreas of the affected fish. There appeared to be a predilection for the liver. A gram-negative rod was isolated from the lesions which fits the characteristics of the genus Flavobacterium. This isolate produced the disease experimentally in fish of the same species.
