Abstract

This book is the third rendition of a text concerning the pathology of pet and aviary birds with the substitution of a previous editor. The first issue contained black and white plates. The second issue contained both black and white as well as colored plates. This edition contains mostly colored plates. Additional chapters have been added to this edition, which include Anatomy and Postmortem Examination as well as dedicated chapters for Doves and Pigeons, Passerine Birds, Raptors, Cytology, and Advanced Diagnostics. As in previous editions, the text is organized by systems. Those chapters are subdivided, where appropriate, by normal, congenital, infectious, noninfectious, nutritional, endocrine, toxic, and neoplastic diseases. Each chapter is supported by well-written text with lots of high-quality gross and microscopic images. In some instances, there are electron photomicrographs. Of course, there are numerous references at the end of each chapter to provide additional sources. Each chapter is written by many supporting authors who represent regions of the world other than North America. The text contains known classic phenomena as well as rarely seen conditions. This text would be an excellent reference for individuals who have a keen interest in pet and aviary birds, which could include veterinary students, practicing veterinarians, and those studying veterinary pathology, as well as serve as a reference for those whose responsibilities would include providing a necropsy service for non-poultry clients. The new edition is worthy of purchase when compared with the previous editions.
