Abstract

The ACVP Board of Directors is closely monitoring health guidance about SARS-CoV-2 and is prepared to adapt the planned meeting to deliver virtually the high-quality content that you have come to appreciate and expect. For updates, please check the following website: https://www.acvp.org/page/2020_COVID_Update. The dates of the meeting reflect the original schedule and are subject to change.
The Focused Scientific Sessions of the combined Annual Meeting of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP), and International Society for Animal Clinical Pathology (ISACP) begin on Sunday, November 1, 2020, following the Opening Reception, at which the Veterinary Student posters are displayed (Saturday evening, October 31) and concludes on Tuesday, November 3. The meeting is one day shorter than past meetings, reflecting the newly implemented compact scheduling to enhance the attendee experience. The sessions include Clinical Pathology, Diagnostic Pathology, Education, Experimental Disease, Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology, and Natural Disease topics. Our meetings include large numbers of abstracts from institutions all over the world.
The meeting abstracts will be published on the ACVP website and will add to the permanent searchable archive of Annual Meeting abstracts available since 2012. Abstracts will be posted in an “open access” location on the website approximately 1 month before the meeting for review. The website offers the ability to search by any word in the title or body of abstracts. Moving the abstracts to the ACVP website has brought flexibility to the timeline by allowing a later abstract submission date of July 1. Use of the website also allows easy access to veterinary pathology topics and increases the visibility of ACVP while providing an enhanced resource to serve people around the globe.
The Focused Scientific Session Committees have been hard at work organizing programs to showcase the work of our College members and to bring innovative science and technology from outside resources to the attention of our membership. Highlights for the focused group programs at the Chicago Annual Meeting include the following:
Clinical Pathology:
Biomarker Development and Translational Research: How the “Veterinary” in Clinical Pathology Brings Something Special to the Table The Interaction Between Inflammation and Coagulation using Canine Babesiosis as a Model
Diagnostic Pathology:
Two sessions packed with interesting case reports, including that of the 2019 AAVLD/ACVP Travel Awardee
Education:
Regulatory Writing Predatory Publishing Scientific Writing with a round table of veterinary pathology journal editors
Experimental Disease:
Broad-Spectrum Antivirals for Pandemic Coronavirus Disease
Industrial and Toxicological Pathology:
The Zebrafish Model in Drug Discovery Toxicology
Natural Disease:
Novel Insights into the Microbiology of Bovine Respiratory Diseases
In addition, we will have a new separate session for selected veterinary student platform presentations. We will also have an extended Emerging Disease Session on COVID-19.
I want to thank the session chairs, co-chairs, awards chair, and the ACVP administrative staff who contribute so much to the success of the Annual Meeting. There is always a diverse set of topics to educate and challenge us. I am looking forward to a great meeting in Chicago, and I hope to see as many of you there as possible.
