Abstract

The Focused Scientific Sessions of the combined 64th Annual Meeting of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and 48th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP) begin on Sunday, November 17, 2013. Sessions include Clinical Pathology, Diagnostic Pathology, Education, Experimental Disease, Natural Disease, and Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology. We received a large number of abstract submissions (249) of original work from institutions all over the world.
As initiated last year, the meeting abstracts will be published on the ACVP website as the Proceedings of the Annual Meeting and will add to the permanent searchable archive of annual meeting proceedings. Abstracts will be posted in an “open access” location on the website and will be available throughout the meeting via a mobile meeting app. Publication on the website has prompted several new “search” functions to be developed, which provide the ability to search by any word in the title or body of any abstract. This year, additional search features and printing options will be available. Moving the abstracts to the ACVP website brings some flexibility to the timeline by allowing a later abstract submission date for the first time this year. Also, use of the website allows easy access to veterinary pathology topics and increases the visibility of ACVP while providing an enhanced resource to serve people around the globe.
The Focused Scientific Session Committees have been hard at work organizing programs to showcase the work of our college members and bring innovative science and technology from outside resources to the attention of our membership. Highlights in Montreal from the various sessions include the following:
Posters will be on display throughout the meeting. Poster presenters may be available by their presentation during the refreshment breaks corresponding with the platform sessions of the same topic. This exchange is always well received because it is a dedicated time to meet the folks behind our science and to talk pathology with colleagues.
It has been a great year for the Focused Scientific Sessions Committees—thanks to the large number of quality abstracts submitted for the meeting. There is a little something for everyone in the diverse and enlightening program. I am looking forward to a terrific meeting, in a terrific venue, and I hope to see as many of you there as possible. I also want to extend special thanks to Focused Session Chairs, their committees, and the ACVP administrative staff who truly make it all happen.
