Abstract

The Training Program Development Task Force of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists would like to formally recognize the architect of the “Elements of Good Training in Anatomic Pathology”: Dr Linda Munson. This document was Linda’s vision, starting years ago as a draft of what she called “Elements of Good Training.” Although each of us on the committee—representing the spectrum of the college membership—contributed to the process, it was Linda’s creation. She was the driving force that enabled us to produce a consensus guidance document that will influence training programs in veterinary anatomic pathology for years to come. Linda had a way of putting into words concepts that the rest of us could feel but only feebly articulate. One of our favorite parts of the document is “The complexity and ambiguity of natural cases…cannot be replaced by teaching sets of classic lesions.” We all knew that actual cases were best for teaching, but only she could put it into such elegant descriptive words. Although we wish she were here now to help us figure out how to clearly and elegantly explain her contributions and we are saddened by her passing, we take solace in the fact that she lives on through this document and through those of us she has influenced over the years.
