The immunosuppressive activity of daunomycin on the production of spleen plaque-forming cells was determined in mice treated with the antibiotic and later challenged with sheep erythrocytes. The immune response was significantly decreased by a dose of 7.5 mg/kg body weight and virtually abolished by a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight. It is suggested that daunomycin may interfere with the latent period of the immune response.
