Abstract
316 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity with secondary invasion of the mandible are analysed statistically. The highest incidence was in the 6th and 7th decades of life, with a strong predilection for males (285 cases out of 316). Metastases to the regional lymph nodes were observed in 255 cases, occurring very soon after the onset of the primary symptoms: of the 143 cases with a clinical history of three months or less as many as 127 exhibited regional lymph nodes involvement. The most frequent site of the primary tumor was the gingiva (142 cases). The best results were obtained with surgical treatment of with radium therapy associated with surgical removal of the regional lymph nodes. Some practical conclusions are drawn from the various clinical parameters.
