Out of 136 cases of malignant melanomas, 44 survived symptomless more than 5 years after therapy. There were 82 cases of pleomorphic-cell type, 31 spindle-cell, 5 mixed-cell, and 18 superficial melanoblastomas. Spindle-cell and superficial melanoblastomas had a better survival, 55 and 78 percent of the cases being alive without recurrence 5 years after therapy, while only 15 percent of the pleomorphic melanoblastomas had a 5-year survival.
