Abstract
In 13 of 87 cases of sarcoid lesions in regional lymph nodes a malignant tumor was found, arising in all cases but one, in the area drained by the affected lymph nodes. Twelve of the 13 tumors were carcinomas. The regional involvement of the lymph nodes, the simultaneous appearance of the tumor and of the granulomatous lymphoadenopathy as well as the lack of other etiological factors, suggest that sarcoid changes in the lymph nodes are probably due to reaction against irritant products from the tumor. The importance of the knowledge that granulomatous lesions identical to those of systemic sarcoidosis can develop in lymph nodes regional to malignant tumors, is stressed.
