Abstract
The results obtained in 83 cases of carcinoma of the tonsils radiologically treated from 1946 to 1955 at the Cancer Institute of Milano, are compared with those observed in 74 similar cases radiologically treated from 1928 to 1937. A considerable increase of the percentage of cases clinically cured at 5 years (47%) was observed. This result is largely due to improved radiation procedures on the primary tumor. An analysis of the results shows that the metastases to regional lymph nodes may be controlled by radical surgery without the necessity of radiation therapy.
