Abstract
The usefulness of the cytologic study of material obtained from neoplasms by means of thin-needle aspiration is discussed. The risulta obtained in 47 cases of thin-needle aspiration from lymph nodes are described. In 30 cases a surgical biopsy of the lymph nodes was also performed; in 26 of these cases a positive correlation between the cytologic and the histologic diagnosis was established. The authors believe that the cytologic test by thin-needle aspiration is of value in the oncological practice, both as a collateral help to the histologic test and as a diagnostic aid, when a surgical biopsy is not feasible.
