Abstract
Eighteen cases of synovioma, 7 benign (3 males and 4 females) and 11 malignant (8 males and 3 females), were studied. The average age was 41.8 and 40.2 years for the benign and malignant synoviomas respectively. Of the 7 benign synoviomas, 4 were localized at the knee, 2 intrarticularly; similarly, 6 of 11 malignant synoviomas developed in the knee, with intrarticular localization in 4 cases. Benign synoviomas were surgically treated, with no recurrence. In the malignant group, 5 exereses, 4 amputations and 2 disarticulations were performed. In 4 cases radiotherapy was applied also. Out of the 10 malignant synoviomas followed after surgery, 4 recurrences occurred, 2 with metastases. In 2 other cases there were metastases, without local recurrence.
