Abstract
A total of 85 advanced cancer patients were submitted to pituitary ablation by insertion of radioactive gold seeds. The procedure was performed using a fluoroscopic image intensifier but no external reference framework. Post-op. complications were uncommon. Therapeutic results were encouraging in many types of advanced cancer. Clinical data are presented, of which the most striking feature was the relief of pain in many cases. Improvement, either objective or subjective or both, was obvious in 68 % of all patients.
