Four cases of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcomas are described. A great variation of cellular size and shape, the presence of giant cells, of small round cells, and of strap-shaped and racquet-shaped cells, the identification of longitudinal striation in tumor cells, the absence of a close connection between the tumor cells and the stroma, are believed to be the most important criteria for the identification of these tumors. Cells with typical cross striations are considered residual muscle cells.
