In albino rats bearing 3,4-benzpyrene sarcoma, the blood properdine level has been systematically studied at different times: before the administration of the carcinogenic hydrocarbon, during the latency period of the neoplasm, in the different stages following the cancer occurrence until the exitus of the experimented animals.
No significant changes could be observed during the latency period and within 5-10 days after the cancer occurrence, whereas a rapid and progressive decrease of the properdine level was later seen, until disappearance in the more advanced stages of the neoplasm.
