Abstract
Adult albino rats of the same weight and age were hypophisectomized and grafted with Walker carcinoma. The animals were divided in 8 groups, 4 of which submitted to hormonotherapy and 4 kept as controls. Non hypophisectomized grafted animals submitted to hormonotherapy were also considered as controls.
a) in the first group, treated with ACTH, a partial restoration of the tumour growth value was observed in comparison with hypophisectomized untreated animals.
b) The same result, though in a lesser degree, was obtained in animals treated with STH.
c) the administration of the folliculostimulating hormone (FSH) did not significantly increase the tumour weight.
d) the treatment with the interstitial cells stimulating hormone (ICSH) gave the same result of FSH administration.
e) animals treated with ACTH and STH showed a remarkable diminution in the ponderal value of the carcass (total weight minus tumour weight) at the end of the experiment.
