The side-effect profile of oral meptazinol (200 mg) has been described in comparison to placebo in a multicentre general practice setting. Complaints were concerned primarily with the gastro-intestinal tract (64% and 59% of all reported adverse reactions in the placebo and meptazinol groups, respectively). There was no evidence of any deleterious interaction between meptazinol and other medications taken during the course of the trial.
