Abstract
A double-blind trial was carried out in ninety-four patients subjected to surgery for varicose veins in order to study the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of two indomethacin dosages (150 mg and 100 mg per day) as compared to placebo. It was noted that indomethacin markedly reduced the spontaneous pain following extirpation of varicose veins. The adverse reactions were few and mild. Indomethacin is recommendable for the postoperative treatment of pain caused by varicose vein surgery and obviates the use of stronger analgesics.
