Adherence assessment questionnaire
The Morisky Medication Adherence Questionnaire was used for the adherence assessment (Table 1).12 Note that the questionnaire collected from patients by the authors included slightly modified wording to the exact scale below, in accordance with licensing terms. The questionnaire contains eight questions: (1) Do you sometimes forget to take medicine?; (2) People sometimes miss taking their medications for reasons other than forgetting. Thinking over the past 2 weeks, were there any times when you did not take your medication?; (3) Have you ever cut back or stopped taking your medication without telling your doctor because you felt worse when you took it?; (4) When you travel or leave home, do you sometimes forget to bring along your medication?; (5) Did you take the medicine yesterday?; (6) When you feel that your diabetes is under control, do you sometimes stop taking your medication?; (7) Taking medication exactly as prescribed is a real inconvenience for some people. Do you ever feel hassled about sticking to your treatment plan?; (8) How often do you have difficulty remembering to take all of your medications? MMAS-8: low adherence is less than 6, 6 to less than 8 is categorized as medium adherence and 8 is categorized as high adherence for MMAS-8.
