This study explores the social consequences of rejection of mortgage refinancing and attributes the causes primarily to market imperfections. The implications of such rejection to public policy makers, consumers, and marketers are discussed. Although the findings support increased competition, government intercession in the mortgage and refinancing industry is suggested to protect consumer interests.
