Abstract
The United Kingdom's first undergraduate degree in retailing, a BA in Retail Marketing, was developed at the Manchester Metropolitan University in the mid-1980s. A number of the major players in the British retail community played an important part in the development process, and they have been actively involved in the running of the program. This article discusses the principal features of the degree program and outlines a number of further retail marketing initiatives that have been built on this successful foundation.
