Undergraduate students taking a principles of marketing course were randomly assigned to compose multiple-choice questions for possible inclusion on tests held every two weeks during the course. The text-writing assignment improved learning compared to nonwriting control groups. Also, the student-generated tests were preferred by the students to the questions found in the test bank supplied by the textbook publisher.
