Palliative care services in New Zealand are provided in a variety of forms dependent on the local needs and the resources available. There is increasing awareness of the need for education in the care of the terminally ill and this is being addressed in undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. Comprehensive instruction in palliative care is being given in nursing training courses.
