Although sexual dysfunction affects between 50-90% of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), its diagnosis and treatment are still very much in their infancy. Myths, stereotypes and discrimination limit thorough research and therapy studies in the area. This review focuses on the present state of knowledge regarding aetiology, prevalence, symptoms and impact on partners of sexual problems among the MS population. It finishes with a discussion on current treatment options available to health care professionals.
