Leiomyosarcomata arising in large veins are rare tumours. The preoperative diagnosis is often difficult and, if they are only discovered at an advanced stage, the prognosis is poor. We describe four patients with these tumours. Two have died of their disease and two remain free of disease 2 and 5 years after radical surgical excision.
