Abstract
Various complications of varicose vein surgery known to the authors are discussed. Eleven vascular injuries were reported, six arterial and five venous. These were variously crush, transection or stripping injuries. Inexperienced surgical skill was identified as a major contributing factor. Ten of the eleven injuries were recognized immediately and were referred for repair. There were no serious sequelae. Recommendations are made to avoid similar injuries in the future.
