Abstract
Objective:
To describe the author's own technique for treating long saphenous vein incompetence.
Method:
The long saphenous vein is stripped using a disposable stripper with the patient under general anaesthesia. Saphenous varices are managed by hook phlebectomy.
Conclusions:
The author's technique is effective in the management of large saphenous varices associated with long saphenous incompetence. The result is cosmetically satisfactory. Any residual varices are dealt with by sclerotherapy.
