Abstract
`Overheidsvoorlichting' is a unique Dutch concept, referring to the practices and procedures surrounding information dissemination and governmental public relations. To what extent the government should take care of these by themselves, or leave them to the existing mass media, has been much discussed. The establishment, since 1946, of several governmental committees has not diminished public debate in this area. The reasons for continued controversy are many, but lack of understanding of the true nature of communication has contributed to the confusion.
