Abstract
In this study, durable antifogging coatings were fabricated on glass substrates by simply applying a mixture of silica sol and TweenⓇ40. The effects of TweenⓇ40 loading on the properties of the coatings were scrutinized. The coatings demonstrate good antifogging behavior, as no fog or haze was observed on the coated specimen when exposed to hot water steam at 85°C. The optimal coating retains its antifogging property for a notable 12 weeks. The antifogging behavior is mainly provided by TweenⓇ40 within the coating. Meanwhile, the silica sol in the coating serves as a matrix or host for TweenⓇ40, thereby enhancing the coating's robustness.
