In the presented study, the effects of ultrasonic vibration on microstructure and surface properties of Mn–Cu alloy were investigated. At the early stage of ultrasonic cavitation treatment, grains of Mn–Cu alloy are refined, nanocrystals and amorphous bands are produced. As the ultrasonic cavitation treatment proceeds, the face-centered cubic structure is transformed into the body-centered tetragonal structure, and the martensitic phase transformation arises. The transformation is accompanied by plastic deformation and the formation of dislocations. The generation of martensite is caused by the stress and strain. Due to grain refinement, dislocations, and generation of martensite, the surface hardness of Mn–Cu alloy is enhanced, and the friction coefficient decreases. The resistance to wear is thereby improved.
