Botswana, an index to literature on
economic and social development in Botswana,
which is the product of the information system for
development literature in Botswana (DEVSIS
Botswana), was analyzed from 1987-89 with a
view to identifying the producers of development
literature in Botswana, as well as establishing the
various types of formats of the publications listed in
the index. The study revealed that government
agencies are the major producers of development
literature. Other producers identified are the
University of Botswana, non-governmental
organizations, international organizations and the
private sector. Development literature in Botswana
appears in different formats, but primarily in the form
of technical reports. Recommendations for improving
the collection of socio-economic literature are made.
