Presents a case study of the Development
Information Network for South Asia (DEVINSA)
in the selection of the most suitable software
package for the establishment and development
of its master database located at the Marga
Institute in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Examines some
of the attributes and characteristics of two
software packages for microcomputer use,
INMAGIC and CDS/ISIS, in developing a
structured bibliographical database. The criteria
for selection are formulated in relation to the
needs, activities, services, type of data and users
of the DEVINSA system.
