Reviews the economic, social and psychological
impact of information technology, which has
brought about the Information Age. Information
is now being treated as a scientific concept and
should also be regarded as an economic
commodity. It has also created a new paradigm
of thinking. Information technology has an
enabling effect at five levels: cost reduction;
quality improvement; generation of new
products and services; strategic management;
and the creation of new ways of thinking. Public
policy, particularly educational policy, should
take full account of information technology.
