Inadequate dissemination of agricultural
information to farmers is one of the key factors
responsible for low agricultural production in
Africa. Some factors that inhibit the flow of
agricultural information to farmers include the
low literacy level of farmers, limited numbers of
radio and television sets and inadequate
numbers of personnel trained in agricultural
information work. Suggestions for removing
these barriers include government actions to
reduce illiteracy, reducing the cost of radio sets
and the design of a curriculum for the training of
agricultural information specialists by library
schools in Africa.
