Proposes the creation of an information
network for the member countries of the
South Asian Association for Regional
Cooperation (SAARC). The network should
involve the use of computers in developing
and sharing databases among the participating
countries. The overall approach should be in
line with the philosophy of ASTINFO (Regional
Network for the Exchange of Information and
Experience in Science and Technology in Asia
and the Pacific). This suggests that the
network should be structured on a
cooperative basis. A central database should
be created in stages, using 32-bit
microcomputers and CD-ROM. National focal
points should have telecommunications links
with other centres within their own countries.
