in developing countries. Deals with the six
countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council,
namely, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi
Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Presents the background to these countries
and summarizes the development of science
and technology in the region. Discusses
collection building in the libraries of the region
and problems of censorship and finance.
Describes methods for the purchase of
monographs, journals and continuations,
publications of international agencies and
nonprint media, including vendor selection
and ordering and receipt procedures. The
present situation with regard to the use of
automation in acquisitions work and the need
for centralized and cooperative purchasing are
described. Reviews the major problems and
suggests possible solutions.
