The first of a series of articles on the
acquisition of scientific literature by libraries
in developing countries. Summarizes the
development of science and technology and
scientific and technological libraries and
documentation centres in Bangladesh and
describes the problems of acquiring scientific
literature through purchase, gift and
exchange, including lack of foreign exchange
and postal delays. Cooperative acquisitions
programmes and the use of international
sources of document supply are considered.
Proposals for future action are made.
