In 1975, Unesco's Computerized Documenta
tion System, (CDS) was combined with the Inte
grated Set of Information Systems (ISIS) de
veloped by the International Labour Organiza
tion to create a comprehensive collection of
programs for input, management and output in
either batch or on-line mode, known as CDS/
ISIS. The same set of programs can be used to
manipulate various data bases with different
data content. Forty-three data bases are run by
CDS/ISIS within the Unesco Secretariat and the
package is made available free of charge to
non-profit institutions in Member States. The
system is being used to support an Integrated
Documentation Network within Unesco and
micro and minicomputer versions are soon to
be released.
