Abstract
Although rice is the main food staple for more than half of the world’s population, rapid population growth is threatening food security. In response, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), together with partners in other countries, is working to improve prospects for rice farmers and consumers. Information is viewed as vital in this process and IRRI is taking advantage of new technological advances to improve delivery of information to rice scientists in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and elsewhere. At the same time, traditional library, publishing and network activities are continuing as before.
