Abstract
Discusses the fifty years’ development of librarianship in Pakistan and briefly analyses the policies and plans made in this regard. The role of library schools and their curriculum in development of the profession has also been reviewed. The advent of cybernetic data communication technology has necessitated a major shift in the role of library and information professionals. Thus an attempt has been made to contexualize the impact of information revolution on this vital profession. In order to refocus our strategies for transforming the classical librarianship into a modern one, some possible measures have also been elaborated.
