Abstract
Based on a paper presented at the 1997 Waigani Seminar on ‘Information and the Nation’ 27–29 August 1997, University of Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and published in: D.E.K.Wijasuriya. The national information infrastructure: selected papers. Kuala Lumpur, Bistari Mediabuku, 1998. Describes the development and present situation of the information infrastructure in Malaysia, including: public library services, the National Library of Malaysia, special libraries, university and college libraries, and school libraries; library resources; human resources; the telecommunications infrastructure; and information technology. Concludes that the expansion of information technology applications should not mean the end of print-based information media.
