Introducing Information and Communication Technologies at the Forestry Research Institute in Ghana

Abstract

Describes the impact of introduction of information and communication technologies, in particular, Internet access, at the Forestry Research Institute in Ghana, first under a project supported by the UK Department for International Development and secondly under an Environmental Information Network project supported by the International Institute for Communication and Development in the Netherlands. Describes training activities and new library services rendered and discusses the advantages of using information technologies, the constraints of networking, the achievements and other expected benefits of the projects and possible future initiatives. Lessons learned in terms of the pre-conditions for successful ICT implementation, institutional support, management and physical resources are also described.
