Abstract
Analyses the author's experience of setting up and running her own business from the information needs perspective. Looks at information problems - lack of preparation; lack of time; lack of contacts; lack of an in-house library; lack of women in the business world. Goes on to describe information needs - start-up requirements; money; equipment; trade information and marketing information. Looks at information sources, including the accountant, bank manager, advice agencies, contact network and libraries. Concludes that libraries do have a role to play in providing information for small business, but that they need to make a stronger commitment to doing so.
