Abstract
The concept of the metaverse is reshaping the way individuals interact with technology, particularly within library services. Metaverse libraries offer immersive, interactive, and personalized experiences, allowing users to access digital resources and engage in real-time virtual interactions. However, the integration of these technologies introduces significant cybersecurity challenges. Libraries must now confront issues such as data privacy, identity theft, phishing, malware, and hacking, all of which are exacerbated in the virtual environment. Protecting user data, ensuring secure access to digital content, and maintaining the integrity of virtual interactions are paramount in metaverse libraries. This narrative review explores these cybersecurity threats and outlines strategies for addressing them. Key measures include enhancing data protection and privacy, implementing advanced authentication techniques like multi-factor authentication and biometrics, fostering user education and awareness on cybersecurity, and collaborating with cybersecurity experts to develop robust security protocols. These strategies are essential for safeguarding the virtual library environment, ensuring that users can interact safely within the metaverse while protecting sensitive data and intellectual property. As metaverse libraries continue to evolve, proactive cybersecurity measures are critical to fostering a secure and trusted virtual space.
