Abstract
The current financial climate is stimulating libraries and information services in all sectors to increase their relevance to their current and potential communities. Allan Foster, in this issue’s Initiatives column, reports on three successful adaptations being made by public libraries, including London’s City Business Library (CBL). Many of the public libraries servicing the business sector have long and distinguished origins which demonstrate a commitment to continued customer awareness and the opportunities provided by the changing published information supply chain. In this brief retrospective, Garry Humphreys brings us up to date with the key figures and initiatives that mark his 34 years employment at CBL, reminds us that it is people that make libraries successful, and acknowledges the key players.
