The study aims to technically value the limit bearing capacity determined by instability in the elastic field. We analyse separately bifurcation and limitation phenomena that produce both general and local failure.
In particular we examine the dynamic effects produced by nodal snap-through that can determine also the overall ruin of the shell.
The results of numerical analyses and of experimental tests can give useful directions to designers.
